Michigan's Maravic Earns Second Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week Honor

Complete Release in PDF Format Matko Maravic, Michigan Maravic earns his second Big Ten Athlete of the Week award of the season and his career, after becoming the first U-M freshman in recent history to compete at the No. 1 singles position during Michigan's doubleheader on March 12. In his career debut at the top singles spot, Maravic claimed a convincing 6-0, 6-3 victory over Butler's James Low to help the Wolverines sweep the Bulldogs in the morning, 7-0. Maravic followed that performance with a 6-4, 5-7, 1-0 (7) win over Indiana State's Anton Tsymbalov to help U-M defeat the Sycamores, 5-2, later in the evening. He also went undfeated at No. 1 doubles with Brian Hung. The pair posted an 8-6 victory over Butler's Andy Bartish and Eric Breitenbach, then knocked off ISU's No. 43-ranked duo of Aaron Phillips and Simon Thornewill, 8-3. In his first season, Maravic is tied for the team lead in dual match singles wins (9-4) and overall singles victories (14-8) in 2004-05.
