Nick Rinks, Michigan State
Jr., Kalamazoo, Mich./Kalamazoo Central

The Spartan junior earns his first career Athlete of the Week selection after a tremendous performance in Michigan State's 5-2 loss to No. 26 Michigan. In doubles, Rinks teamed up with Adam Monich to defeat the second-ranked doubles team of Brian Hung and Matko Maravic, 8-6. The Spartan tandem is now 3-1.

Rinks, who is ranked 71st in the nation in singles, secured a two-set upset win over the Wolverines' 52nd-ranked Matko Maravic in No. 1 singles. After winning the first set 6-2, Rinks fell behind 3-4 in the second, but rallied to clinch the match with a 6-4 advantage. The win marked his third straight and earned the Green and White's second point of the match. This marks the first weekly distinction for a Spartan since Cameron Marshall was honored Jan. 27, 2005.
