Gallego won two singles matches over ranked opponents last weekend to earn his first Big Ten Athlete of the Week honor. Playing at No. 1 singles, the junior battled to three-set wins in each of his matchups. On Friday against No. 82 Joshua Graves of Northwestern, Gallego, ranked No. 80, dropped the first set, but came back to win a 2-6, 6-3, 6-3 decision. His contest on Sunday against 22nd-ranked Marek Michalicka played out similarly to his Friday match. Gallego dropped the first set, but rallied to win the next two, 2-6, 6-4, 6-2, to earn the victory.
