Minnesota and Ohio State Claim Final Weekly Men's Tennis Honors

Men's Tennis Co-Athlete of the Week Minnesota's Tobias Wernet takes home his second weekly conference honor this season after defeating the 10th-ranked singles player in the country over the weekend. Wernet, ranked 100th in the nation in singles, took down Illinois' Dennis Nevolo, 6-3, 4-6, 6-2, at No. 1 singles on Friday in the 23rd-ranked Gophers' 4-3 win over the No. 18 Fighting Illini. He followed with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 1 against Iowa's Marc Bruche on Sunday, helping Minnesota take a 5-2 decision against the 66th-ranked Hawkeyes. Last Minnesota Athlete of the Week: Tobias Wernet (April 5, 2011) Chase Buchanan, Ohio State Chase Buchanan won two singles matches and two doubles contests en route to his fourth weekly laurel this season. Buchanan and teammate Shuhei Uzawa opened the weekend with an 8-2 win at No. 2 doubles over Indiana's Josh MacTaggart and Stephen Vogl. The junior, ranked 12th nationally in singles, then downed the Hoosiers' Jeremy Langer, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 1 singles to push the fourth-ranked Buckeyes to a 5-2 win over 24th-ranked Indiana, helping them clinch the Big Ten Championship. Buchanan and Blaz Rola, ranked 11th in the country in doubles, defeated Purdue's Pawel Poziomski and Szymon Tatarczyk, 8-3, at No. 1 before Buchanan earned a 6-2, 6-1 win over Mark Kovacs at No. 1 singles in the Buckeyes' 7-0 sweep of the 63rd-ranked Boilermakers.
