Big Ten Men's Tennis All-Conference Teams and Individual Awards Announced

ROSEMONT, Ill. -- The Big Ten men's tennis all-conference teams and individual awards were announced Thursday corresponding with the start of the Big Ten Tournament. Conference champion Ohio State swept the individual awards with Mikael Torpegaard being named Big Ten Athlete of the Year, John McNally earning Freshman of the Year honors and Ty Tucker picking up Coach of the Year laurels.

Torpegaard claimed his second Athlete of the Year honor, also taking home the accolade in 2016. This year marks the seventh time a Buckeye has collected the honor. The No. 5-ranked player in the nation, Torpegaard has compiled a 24-6 overall singles record, including a 10-1 mark in conference play. He has defeated 13 ranked opponents this season.

McNally becomes the fourth consecutive Buckeye to earn Freshman of the Year accolades following Torpegaard, Hugo Di Feo and JJ Wolf. Overall, McNally is the eighth Buckeye to earn the honor. McNally posted a 22-5 singles mark with a 8-1 record in Big Ten matches.

Tucker collects his 13th Big Ten Coach of the Year award after leading the Buckeyes to an 11-0 conference record and their 13th consecutive Big Ten Championship. This is the 12th time in the last 13 seasons Tucker has been honored by his peers. The Buckeyes are currently No. 3 in the latest ITA Rankings.
