Ohio State Falls 4-0 to Southern California in the NCAA Quarterfinals
The Ohio State Buckeyes’ season came to an end on Sunday afternoon with a 4-0 loss to Southern California in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Championships. Ohio State ends the season with a 35-2 record.
Ohio State and USC needed all three games to determine the winner of the doubles point, with USC winning at Nos. 1 and 2 to go ahead 1-0. While the Buckeyes were competitive throughout the singles matches, the Trojans won the first three matches to seal the victory.
Buckeyes Advance to NCAA Championships Quarterfinals With 4-0 Win Over Wisconsin
Fourth-seeded Ohio State opened play in the NCAA Championships Round of 16 with a 4-0 win over Big Ten foe Wisconsin on Friday morning at the Lindsey Hopkins Indoor Facility on the University of Georgia campus. Ohio State advances to face the winner of the Southern California-Kentucky matchup on Sunday. Wisconsin ends its season with a 21-8 record.
After rain forced play indoors, Ohio State and Wisconsin competed in three tight doubles matches, but Ohio State's 9-7 win at No. 1 gave the Buckeyes a 1-0 lead heading into singles. There, Ohio State won the first three singles matches to advance to the quarterfinals.
Ohio State Advances in NCAA Championships With 4-1 Win Over Michigan
Fourth-seeded Ohio State advanced to the Round of 16 in the NCAA Championships with a 4-1 victory over Michigan in the Ohio State Regional final on Sunday afternoon. The Buckeyes move on to the championships site at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex at the University of Georgia on May 21.
After getting out to an early 1-0 lead, the Buckeyes pushed their lead to 3-0 after wins at Nos. 4 and 5 singles. Michigan cut the lead to 3-1 with a win at No. 6 singles, but Dino Marcan's three-set win at No. 3 singles gave the Buckeyes the decisive point.
Wisconsin Defeats Illinois, 4-1, to Advance to Round of 16
The Wisconsin Badgers knocked off No. 13 seed Illinois, 4-1, on Saturday afternoon at the Illinois Regional. The win advances the Badgers into the round of 16 and a spot at the championships host site at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex at the University of Georgia, beginning May 21.
After Wisconsin won the doubles point, the Badgers upped their lead to 3-0 after wins at Nos. 2 and 6 singles. Illinois cut the lead to 3-1, but Wisconsin iced the match with a win by Moritz Baumann at No. 1 singles.
Ohio State Cruises With 4-0 Win Over Western Michigan
Big Ten Champion and fourth-seeded Ohio State knocked off Western Michigan, 4-0, Saturday afternoon in the Ohio State Regional of the NCAA Championships. The Buckeyes advance to take on Big Ten rival Michigan at Noon ET on Sunday.
With a quick win in doubles, the bottom of the Ohio State lineup won the three necessary singles matches to clinch the win. Victories at Nos. 4, 5 singles, along with the decisive win by Devin McCarthy at No. 6 singles, gave the Buckeyes a spot in the tournament's second round.
Michigan Moves to Second Round With 4-1 Victory Against Denver
Michigan advanced to the second round of the NCAA Championships with a 4-1 win over Denver on Saturday afternoon at the Ohio State Regional. The Wolverines will face the Ohio State-Western Michigan winner at Noon ET on Sunday.
The Maize and Blue got out to an early 1-0 advantage, but Denver won the first singles match to even the score. Michigan, however, would go on to win the next three singles points, capped by Jason Jung's straight sets win at No. 1 singles to clinch a second-round berth for the Wolverines.
Minnesota Advances to Second Round With 4-1 Win Over Arizona
After lengthy rain delays and beginning play eight hours after the original start time at the Texas Regional on Friday, Minnesota defeated Arizona 4-1 to advance to the second round of the NCAA Championships. The Gophers will face Texas at approximately 1 p.m. CT on Saturday.
Minnesota took the doubles point, then won matches at Nos. 1 and 2 singles. After Arizona won at No. 3 singles to cut the Minnesota lead to 3-1, Gopher Dino Bilankov recorded the match-clinching win at No. 5 singles.
Illinois Advances to Face Wisconsin With 4-0 Win Over Xavier in First Round
The 13th-seed Illini punched their ticket to the second round with a 4-0 win over Xavier in the Illinois Regional semifinal of the NCAA Championships on Friday afternoon. Illinois will face Big Ten-foe Wisconsin in second-round play at 1 p.m. CT on Saturday.
With quick victories in doubles and in the first two singles matches, Illinois' Abe Souza gave the host team the dual victory after winning at No. 3 singles. Illinois and Wisconsin faced once earlier this season with the Illini taking the win.
Wisconsin Advances With 4-2 Win Over Notre Dame
Wisconsin posted a 4-2 win over Notre Dame in the opening round at the Illinois Regional of the 2010 NCAA Championships on Friday afternoon. Wisoncin will advance to face the winner of Illinois-Xavier at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
The Badgers jumped to a 1-0 early with a win in doubles, then went up 3-1 with wins at No. 1 and No. 6 singles. The Irish cut the lead to 3-2, but Billy Bertha clinched the win for the Badgers at No. 5 singles to move Wisconsin into the second round.
