Just hours after advancing to the NCAA Championships round of 16 in the singles bracket, Ohio State senior Steven Moneke paired up with Justin Kronauge to defeat No. 26 Damon Gooch and Philip Nemec of Elon, 7-5, 6-4 in doubles opening round-action at the G.P. Mitchell Tennis Center in College Station, Texas. The Buckeye tandem has now won nine of its last 11 matches, improving to 13-3 overall on the season, and will return to the courts for second-round play on Friday.
The 21-ranked Illinois duo of Dennis Nevolo and Ruan Roelofse dropped a 6-3, 6-0 decision to No. 10-ranked Tim Puetz and Alexey Tsyrenov of Auburn in the NCAA Round of 32 to end the 2009 season with an overall record of 16-6.
