Ohio State senior tri-captain Steven Moneke persevered through a three-set match at the NCAA Singles Championship in College Station, Texas. The two-time ITA All-American topped Jay Weinacker of North Carolina State, 4-6, 6-1, 6-4, on Friday to earn a spot in the tournament’s quarterfinals.
With the win, Moneke improves to a team-high 43-4 overall and 20-2 in NCAA action. The Alten-Buseck, Germany native now owns a program-best 144 career singles wins in his four-year stint at Ohio State.
Up next in singles competition, Moneke will face fifth-seeded Agostinelli of Kentucky in the quarterfinal round at 11 a.m. (ET) Saturday.
In the second round of the doubles championships, the 14th-ranked Buckeye duo of junior Justin Kronauge and Moneke dropped a 6-1, 6-2 decision to No. 8 Omar Altman and Bassam Beidas of Pepperdine on Friday afternoon. Kronauge and Moneke finish the season with a 13-4 overall slate, winning nine of their last 12 matches.
