Three Big Ten Men's Tennis Players Advance to NCAA Singles Championships Second Round

Three Big Ten men's tennis players moved on to the second round of the NCAA Singles Championship after wins in Wednesday's first round. Illinois' Dennis Nevolo and Ohio State's Chase Buchanan and Blaz Rola will each compete in second-round matches on Thursday.

Nevolo defeated North Carolina State's Jaime Pulgar, 6-1, 6-3 and will take on Ole Miss' Marcel Thiemann on Thursday. Buchanan took down Tennessee's Mikelis Libietis, 6-0, 6-1, and will face Georgia Tech's Kevin King in the second round. Rola blanked LSU's Olivier Borsos, 6-0, 6-0 and will meet USC's Emilio Gomez in second-round play. Nevolo and Buchanan begin play at 10 a.m. ET, while Rola takes the court at 12:30 p.m.

Illinois' Roy Kalmanovich dropped a 6-2, 6-3 decision to USC's Steve Johnson, while Michigan's Evan King fell to Virginia's Alex Domijan (6-3, 6-2).

On the doubles side, Penn State's Russell Bader and Jason Lee face Oklahoma's Costin Paval and Dane Webb at 4 p.m., while top-ranked Buchanan and Rola take on North Carolina's Joey Burkhardt and Jose Hernandez at 5:30 p.m. At 6:30 p.m., two Big Ten doubles squads are in action as Illinois' Kalmanovich and Nevolo match up against Mississippi State's George Coupland and Artem Ilyushin and Wisconsin's Fredrik Ask and Billy Bertha look to upset Virginia's Nos. 5-8 seeds Drew Courtney and Jarmere Jenkins.

Second-round singles matches and first-round doubles matches take place on Thursday beginning at 10 a.m. ET.
