Big Ten Singles Championships Set to Begin This Friday

The championship begins with a one-round 12-player qualifying draw to be played on Friday, Oct. 31. The six remaining players advance to the main draw. The first and second rounds of the 64-player main draw will commence on Saturday, Nov. 1 at 8 a.m. CT. Third round and quarterfinal action will be played on Sunday, Nov. 2 starting at 8 a.m. CT. The tournament wraps up on Monday, Nov. 3 with the semifinals and championship match beginning at 9 a.m. CT. The Big Ten Network will air delayed coverage of the championship match at 5 p.m. ET on Sunday, Nov. 9th. In last year's event, Michigan freshman Jason Jung captured the 2007 Big Ten Men's Tennis Singles Championship with a 6-4, 7-6(6) victory over Iowa's Bart van Monsjou. The sixth-seeded Wolverine won six-straight matches in the 64-player main draw to keep the singles trophy in Ann Arbor for the second-consecutive year. Michigan alum Matko Maravic claimed the individual title in 2006. Competition for this year's tournament begins Friday morning with a qualifying round.
