Big Ten Singles Championships Set to Begin This Friday

The University of Wisconsin will play host to the Big Ten Men's Tennis Singles Championship this weekend from Oct. 31 through Nov.3.  The event will take place at Wisconsin’s Nielsen Tennis Stadium.

The championship begins with a one-round 12-player qualifying draw to be played on Friday, Oct. 31.  The six remaining players advance to the main draw.  The first and second rounds of the 64-player main draw will commence on Saturday, Nov. 1 at 8 a.m. CT.  Third round and quarterfinal action will be played on Sunday, Nov. 2 starting at 8 a.m. CT.  The tournament wraps up on Monday, Nov. 3 with the semifinals and championship match beginning at 9 a.m. CT.

The Big Ten Network will air delayed coverage of the championship match at 5 p.m. ET on Sunday, Nov. 9th.

In last year's event, Michigan freshman Jason Jung captured the 2007 Big Ten Men's Tennis Singles Championship with a 6-4, 7-6(6) victory over Iowa's Bart van Monsjou.  The sixth-seeded Wolverine won six-straight matches in the 64-player main draw to keep the singles trophy in Ann Arbor for the second-consecutive year.  Michigan alum Matko Maravic claimed the individual title in 2006.
