Iowa and Michigan Earn Weekly Track and Field Honors

Track Athlete of the Week:
Iowa's Erik Sowinski finished first in the 800-meter run last weekend as the Hawkeyes competed in the Sun Angel Classic held on the campus of Arizona State University. Sowinski crossed the line with a time of 1:48.32, which currently ranks sixth in the nation this season and third in the Big Ten. This is the first weekly award of Sowinski's career and the first for the Hawkeyes this season.

Field Athlete of the Week:
Cody Riffle earned one first-place finish and had another top-five effort last weekend at the UCLA Rafer Johnson Invitational. The freshman posted a winning mark of 18.40 meters in the shot put and threw the discus 50.14 meters for fifth-place. Riffle's shot put effort currently ranks seventh in the nation and first in the conference, is third on Michigan's all-time list, and is the first Wolverine to throw over 60 feet in the shot put in an outdoor meet since Johnny Nielsen in 1982. This marks the first field weekly award for Michigan since the 2008 season.
