Wisconsin, Minnesota and Penn State Take Home Weekly Track and Field Awards

Track Athlete of the Week:
Wisconsin's Elliot Krause opened the outdoor season by finishing as the third-fastest collegian in the 10,000-meter race last weekend as the Badgers competed in the Mt. SAC Relays on the campus of Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut, Calif. The sophomore clocked the fifth-fastest time in the nation, and a personal-best time of 28:43.34 to take seventh place overall and move to the top of the conference performance list in the event. Krause's time also ranks seventh on the Badgers' all-time list. This marks the first weekly award of Krause's career.

Co-Field Athletes of the Week:
Minnesota's Brock Spandl finished second in his first career decathlon last weekend at the California Invitational Decathlon. The senior scored 7,384 points, ranking him sixth all-time in Gopher history. His currently leads the Big Ten and ranks No. 17 in the country so far this season. This marks Spandl's first career weekly award and the second for the Gophers this year.

Joe Kovacs - Penn State
Penn State's Joe Kovacs had three top-five finishes last weekend at the Auburn War Eagle Invitational. Kovacs season-best toss of 18.91 meters in the shot put is currently ranked fifth in Division I and first in the conference. The junior's effort in the discus (55.03 meters) ranks fourth in Penn State history and stands second in the Big Ten on the year. Kovacs' personal-record toss of 61.50 meters in the hammer throw is third in Penn State history and fifth in the Big Ten this season. This marks Kovacs' second weekly award of his career.
