Men’s Track Athlete of the Week

Jack Bolas, Wisconsin
Jr., Chapel Hill, N.C. / Chapel Hill

In just his second race of the outdoor season, Bolas clocked the NCAA’s seventh-fastest 1,500-meter time of the season, crossing the finish line at 3:42.56.  The junior, who placed third at last year’s NCAA meet, finished sixth in an elite Olympic Development section of the race.  Bolas bettered the regional qualifying mark by over five seconds and sits atop the Big Ten leader board this year.  The Chapel Hill, N.C., native, earns his first career outdoor weekly laurel.

Last Wisconsin Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week: Pat Plank (3/25/09)

Men’s Field Athlete of the Week

Eric Sparks, Purdue
Jr., Hermitage, Pa. / Hickory

Sparks cleared a height of 17-06.5 (5.35m.) in the pole vault this past weekend, winning the competition at the Dave Rankin Invitational.  The junior’s mark currently ranks tied for sixth in the country and tops in the Big Ten and the Mideast Region.  The award is the first in Sparks’ outdoor career and the second for a Purdue field athlete this season.
