Quartet of Athletes Honored With Weekly Track & Field Awards

Men’s Track Co-Athletes of the Week:
Jeff See, Ohio State
Sr., Middleton, Ohio/Middletown

See was named Co-Outstanding Performer of the 2010 Drake Relays after anchoring two Buckeye relays to first-place finishes over the weekend. The senior ran the final leg of Ohio State’s winning 4X800-meter relay (7:17.68) and 4X1,600-meter relay (16:25.42) teams, turning in times of 1:47.50 in the 800 meters and 3:57.6 in his 1,600-meter split. The team’s time in the 4X800 relay ranked first in school history. The weekly honor is the third of See’s career.

Casimir Loxsom, Penn State

Loxsom wins his first Big Ten Track Athlete of the Week distinction after helping the Penn State 4X800-meter relay team to a third-place effort at the Penn Relays. The freshman recorded the fastest split of the day, turning in a second-leg time of 1:46.58, as the Nittany Lion teamed finished with a time of 7:17.02. The time was the team’s best this season and is the fourth-fastest in school history.

Men’s Field Co-Athletes of the Week:
Derek Drouin, Indiana
So., Corunna, Ontario/St. Patrick’s

Drouin won his second Big Ten Field Athlete of the Week honor of the season after winning the high jump with the nation’s sixth-best mark at the Penn Relays over the weekend. His leap of 7-3.25 was more than two inches better than the rest of the field and equaled his season-best mark. He is the second Indiana high jumper to win the event at the Penn Relays, joining Cal Boyd who won the event in 1954.

R.J. McGinnis, Minnesota
Sr., Burnsville, Minn./Burnsville

McGinnis claims the second Big Ten Field Athlete of the Week honor of his career after winning the decathlon at the Drake Relays over the weekend. McGinnis totaled 7,319 points, 35 points ahead of Minnesota teammate Jack Szmanda. He is the first Gopher to win the Drake Relays decathlon after finishing second in the event a year ago. McGinnis was in fifth place after five events, but ultimately moved to the top of the standings following the eighth event and held the lead until the end.
