Riley and McGinnis Earn Big Ten Athlete of the Week Accolades

Men’s Track Athlete of the Week Andrew Riley, Illinois Riley clocked the fastest 110-meter hurdles time ever run by an Illinois athlete on Saturday at the 100th annual Drake Relays. Riley’s time of 13.61 shattered the previous Illini record by over a tenth of a second, which stood for nearly a decade, as he earned runner-up laurels. The freshman’s mark ranks seventh in the nation and tops in the Big Ten this season. The indoor All-American also took home second-place honors in the shuttle hurdle relay in a time of 59.65. Last Illinois Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week: Gakologelwang Masheto (4/1/09) Men’s Field Athlete of the Week R.J. McGinnis, Minnesota McGinnis claimed runner-up honors in the decathlon at the 100th running of the Drake Relays this past weekend, posting an NCAA automatic qualifying score of 7,626. McGinnis’ mark ranks third among all collegiate decathletes this season and serves as the No. 3 all-time tally in school history. The junior set personal bests in five of the 10 events.
