Penn State, Minnesota Claim Weekly Track & Field Honors

Men’s Track Athlete of the Week: Loxsom wins his second consecutive Track Athlete of the Week honor after recording the nation’s top time in the 800 meters at the Payton Jordan Cardinal Invitational over the weekend. Loxsom stopped the clock at 1:46.74, which is third-fastest in the Penn State records book and the eighth-fastest ever by an American 19 or younger. His time is 10th fastest in the world this year, according to the International Association of Athletics Federations. Last Penn State Track Athlete of the Week: Casimir Loxsom (April 28, 2010) Men’s Field Athlete of the Week: Hegerle wins his first Big Ten Field Athlete of the Week distinction after posting first- and second-place efforts at the Musco Twilight over the weekend at Iowa City, Iowa. The freshman finished on top in the hammer throw with a toss of 211-5 feet, a mark that is 18th in the nation this year and second in the Minnesota record book.
