Ohio State and Penn State Athletes Receive Final Weekly Accolades of 2009

Men’s Track Athlete of the Week

Jeff See, Ohio State
Sr., Middletown, Ohio / Middletown

See ran his second-consecutive NCAA regional qualifying time this past Saturday at the Oregon Twilight.  The senior crossed the 1,500-meter finish line third behind All-American Mark Sneeds and professional Ian Cronin in a time of 3:44.88 which betters the qualifying mark by nearly three seconds.  See ranks as one of the top-50 best 1,500-meter runners in all of the NCAA and fourth-best in the Big Ten.  The Middletown, Ohio, native garners his second weekly outdoor Track Athlete of the Week award.

Men’s Field Athlete of the Week

John Vellenoweth, Penn State
Sr., Wheeling, WV / Linsley

Vellenoweth took home medalist honors in the pole vault competition at the Penn State Open this past Saturday, clearing a new school-record height of 17-5.50 (5.32 m.).  Vellenoweth’s career-best mark also stands as the 16th-best vault in the nation and the second highest in the Big Ten.  The Wheeling, W.V., native takes home his first career weekly honor.
