A four-time letterwinner, senior David Pachuta has epitomized the word student-athlete during his career at Minnesota. An All-American, team captain and the Minnesota school record-holder in the 800 meters, the neuroscience major has been as successful in the classroom as he is on the track. An NCAA postgraduate scholar who is on course to graduate with a 3.563 GPA, Pachuta has plans to attend the University of Minnesota Dental School in the fall of 2012.
A 2012 NCAA Indoor All-American in the 800 meters and 4X400 meters, Pachuta also qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the 800 meters. He set the school outdoor record in the 800 meters with a time of 1:46.74 at the 2012 Big Ten Championships and finished second at the 2012 Big Ten outdoor meet to earn second team All-Big Ten honors. He also finished second in the 800 meters at the 2012 Big Ten Indoor Championships to earn second team All-Big Ten accolades, ran the first leg of the 4x800 meter relay team that won the 2012 Drake Relays in a time of 7:19.02 and also ran the third leg of the distance medley relay team that won the 2012 Drake Relays in a school record time of 9:36.21. As a junior, Pachuta placed fifth at the Big Ten Championships in the 800 meters with a time of 1:49.10 and led off the Gopher 4x800-meter relay (7:19.51) which broke the school record to win the 2011 Drake Relays. As a sophomore, he placed sixth in the 800 meters at the 2010 Big Ten Outdoor Championships (1:49.67) and ran the third leg of 4x400m relay team that placed fourth. As a freshman in 2008, he earned second team indoor All-Big Ten honors as a member of the runner-up distance medley relay, Pachuta was a three-time Academic All-Big Ten selection.
