First Day Wraps Up at NCAA Track and Field Championships

The first day of action at the 2010 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Ore., wrapped up Wednesday night with one conference student-athlete finishing in the top eight and three others advancing to their respective event finals.

In the field, Michigan State’s Beth Rohl finished fifth in the discus with a throw of 53.44 meters. On the track, Indiana’s Molly Beckwith and De’Sean Turner advanced to the 800-meter and 3,000-meter steeplechase finals, respectively. Penn State’s Fawn Dorr finished among the top eight to advance to the 400-meter hurdles final. Halfway through the heptathlon, Wisconsin’s Dorcas Akinnyi stands in fourth place.

The second day of action at the 2010 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships will begin at 10 a.m. PT on Thursday.
