Penn State Clinches Share of Big Ten Wrestling Dual Meet Championship

With its 32-9 win over No. 11 Michigan on Sunday afternoon, No. 1 Penn State clinched at least a share of the Big Ten Wrestling Dual Meet Championship. The regular season conference title marks the second in the past three years for the Nittany Lions. With Sunday’s win, Penn State improved to 7-0 in Big Ten matches and 13-0 overall. The Nittany Lions will face No. 2 Minnesota in their final Big Ten dual match on Sunday, Feb. 9.
Penn State started the match with a 9-4 decision by Jordan Conaway at 125 pounds, while Jimmy Gulibon and Zain Retherford picked up wins at the 133 and 141-pound weight classes, respectively. Dylan Alton posted a 3-1 sudden victory decision at 157 pounds, while David Taylor (165), Matt Brown (174), Ed Ruth (184) and Morgan McIntosh (197) also recorded wins.
The 2014 Big Ten Wrestling Championships will be held from March 8-9 at the Kohl Center in Madison, Wis. Penn State aims to become just the fourth Big Ten school to win four-straight conference titles and the first since Iowa won 25 consecutive crowns from 1974-1998.
