Wrestler of the Week
Franklin Gomez, Michigan State
So., 133, Brandon, Fla. / Brandon

Gomez, wrestling at 133 and ranked No. 10 nationally, went 5-0 during competition last week.  The Brandon, Fla., native defeated Old Dominion's Kyle Hutter on Nov. 9, and won the decision 8-3.  On Sunday, Gomez took down four opposing grapplers to earn the 133 pound title at the Michigan State Open.  Gomez won his first match of the day with a 15-2 major decision over Cal Poly's John Hanks.  He then went on to beat Old Dominion's Hutter once again, 4-2.  Gomez later squared off against a Big Ten foe in Ohio State's Will Livingston and earned the win, 4-3.  In the championship round, Gomez pulled off the upset, defeating No. 3 Andrae Hernandez of Indiana, winning the crown with a 5-2 decision.  This is Gomez's first career weekly laurel.
