Iowa's Alex Tsirtsis and Michigan's Steve Luke Named Co-Wrestlers of the Week

Co-Wrestlers of the Week: Michigan’s top-ranked Steve Luke earns Co-Wrestler of the Week after posting a perfect 6-0 record en route to the 174-pound individual title at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational. This marks the second Cliff Keen Invitational crown of his career, adding to his 157-pound trophy in 2005. Luke opened the tournament with five straight bonus wins, including three falls, in just a combined 6:04, in his first three matches. In the championship final, Luke converted on a takedown 21 seconds into the sudden-victory overtime to knock off third-ranked Brandon Browne of Nebraska and improve his season mark to 8-0. Scoring 29.5 team points, the Wolverine captain accounted for nearly a third of Michigan's two-day point total. The award marks the second weekly laurel of Luke’s career. Iowa’s third-ranked 141-pounder Alex Tsirtsis garners his first weekly accolade after defeating No. 2 Nick Gallick of Iowa State, 4-2, Saturday. The Hawkeye senior scored a reversal with one second left in the match to pull out the upset. The win spurred top-ranked Iowa to a 20-15 victory over No. 2 Iowa State in front of a national collegiate dual record-setting crowd of 15,955 in Carver-Hawkeye Arena. Tsirtsis improves to 7-0 on the season, while helping the Hawkeyes maintain an unblemished 9-0 slate. For his performance, Tsirtsis’ was also named TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week.
