Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week

 

Bridget Franek, Penn State

So., Hiram, Ohio/Crestwood

 

Franek led the Penn State squad to its second team victory of the season last Saturday, finishing fifth overall and third in team scoring at the Iona Meet of Champions in the Bronx, N.Y. The Ohio native traversed the 6,000-meter historic Van Cortlandt Park course in 21:51.0, helping the Nittany Lions capture the team title with 48 points. Franek collects her second weekly honor this season (9/4/07) and the third of her career.

Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week

 

Lucas Zarzeczny, Penn State

Fr., Pittsburgh, Pa./Avonworth

 

Zarzeczny, running in his first career 8,000-meter race, clocked a time of 25:35.2 to finish eighth overall and seventh in team scoring at the Iona Meet of Champions. Zarzeczny's finish helped lead the Nittany Lions to third place (93 points), behind host Iona and Brown. The Pittsburgh native collects the first weekly honor of his career.
