In his first cross country meet back since being injured last year, Tegenkamp won his second individual Roy Griak Invitational title of his career, finishing the 8-kilometer race with a time of 24:02. Top-ranked Wisconsin claimed the Griak title as a team as well as the top-three finishes individually.

Tegenkamp beat out all other runners from ranked teams such as No. 14 Providence, No. 21 Oregon, No. 27 Colorado State, No. 30 Arizona State, and Big Ten opponents No. 16 Minnesota, No. 22 Ohio State, No. 28 Iowa and Illinois.

Prior to his injury in 2003, Tegenkamp captured the 2002 Big Ten title and finished first on the team and 12th overall (29:49.1) at the NCAA championships, leading the Badgers to a second-place finish.
