Big Ten Schools Set to Compete in NCAA Cross Country Regional Championships

ROSEMONT, Ill. – Big Ten men's and women's cross country teams will compete in various NCAA regional championships on Friday, looking to secure individual berths in the NCAA Championships.

Six Big Ten schools will compete in the Great Lakes Regional in Terre Haute, Ind., five squads will travel to the Midwest Regional in Ames, Iowa and three teams will compete in the Mid-Atlantic Regional in Bethlehem, Pa.

The top two teams and top four individuals not on a qualifying team at each regional will advance to the NCAA Championships on Nov. 18 in Louisville, Ky. Additional teams and individual participants will be chosen through an at-large selection process, which will be announced via press release distributed by the NCAA on Saturday, Nov. 11.

Wisconsin, Ohio State, Indiana, Purdue, Michigan and Michigan State will travel to the Great Lakes Regional hosted by Indiana State at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course in in Terre Haute, Ind.

Northwestern, Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska and Illinois will race at the Iowa State University Cross Country Course at the Midwest Regional, while Maryland, Penn State and Rutgers will represent the Big Ten at Lehigh’s Goodman Course in the Mid-Atlantic Regional.

Entering regional competition, four Big Ten men's cross country teams are ranked in the USTFCCCA Top 30. Big Ten Champion Michigan leads the way at No. 10, followed by No. 15 Michigan State, No. 25 Wisconsin and No. 30 Illinois. Minnesota is among the other teams receiving votes.

Six women's cross country teams are also nationally ranked. Michigan won the Big Ten Championship and is ranked No. 8. Minnesota checks in at No. 13, followed by No. 17 Wisconsin, No. 19 Penn State, No. 21 Michigan State and No. 25 Ohio State.

The Mid-Atlantic and Midwest Regional opens with the women’s 6K at 10:45 a.m. ET and the men’s 10k race follows at 11:45 a.m. The Great Lakes Regional begins with the women’s 6K race at 11:15 a.m. ET, while the men’s 10K race starts at 12:15 p.m. ET.
