• The Big Ten Conference set a new third session attendance record with 7,681 fans for the two-game slate on Friday night, March 3. The total tops the previous record of 7,405 set in 2004. In the opening three sessions of the 2006 Big Ten Tournament, the event has drawn 21,189. The three-session total is nearly 1,500 more than the previous high of 19,694, which was set during the 2004 tournament.

• Indiana improves to 11-10 in Big Ten Tournament play, while Minnesota falls to 4-12. The Hoosiers also improve to 2-0 all-time against Minnesota in the Big Ten Tournament. The last time the two teams met was in the first round of the 2001 tournament, when then-No. 7 Indiana defeated then-No. 10 Minnesota, 78-56.

• The Hoosiers advance to their fourth semifinal and improve their record in quarterfinal action to 4-4. Minnesota drops to 1-4 in quarterfinals.

• The Hoosiers are the first lower seeded team at the 2006 Big Ten Tournament to advance to the next round. Indiana became the first No. 6 seed to move on to the semifinals since Wisconsin did it at the 2002 tournament.
 
• The win over Minnesota snaps a six-game losing streak against the Golden Gophers for Indiana. Coming into the contest, Minnesota had won seven of the last eight meetings, including both games during the regular season. The Gophers won 69-64 in Bloomington, Ind., on Jan. 9, 2006 and 65-58 in Minneapolis, Minn., on Feb. 23, 2006. Minnesota leads the all-time series, 26-23.

• Indiana head coach Sharon Versyp improves to 2-0 in her first Big Ten Tournament, while Minnesota head coach Pam Borton drops to 3-4.

• With Indiana's victory, No. 6 seeds are 5-5 against No. 3 seeds in the Big Ten Tournament. No. 3 seeds are 13-10 all-time, while No. 6 seeds are 15-12.

• Indiana improves to 2-8 versus ranked opponents this season, and has won two of its last three. 


 

 

• Indiana's Angela Hawkins had seven rebounds against Minnesota. It brought her career Big Ten Tournament total to 71 and moves her into a tie for seventh on the career tournament list with Angie Potthoff (1995-97) of Penn State. Hawkins needs three more rebounds to move into fifth on the list. 

• With her seven rebounds against Minnesota, Hawkins moves into fifth on the IU career rebounds list. She moves past Zan Jefferies (1988-91), who had 769 during her career. Hawkins has 772 rebounds for her career.

• Indiana's Nikki Smith matched her career high with 18 in the quarterfinals against Minnesota. She notched 18 earlier in the season against the Gophers in Minneapolis on Feb. 23, 2006.

• Indiana's Nikki Smith tied an Indiana Big Ten Tournament record with four three-point field goals today. She was 4-of-6 (66.7 percent) from behind the arc. Her three-point field goal percentage ties for eighth on the Big Ten single-game three-point field goal percentage list. The last person to connect on better than 66.7 percent from downtown was Ohio State's Caity Matter. Matter hit on 71.4 percent (5-of-7) against Michigan State on March 7, 2003.

• With her four three-point field goals, Smith moves into sixth on the Hoosiers' single-season three-pointers made list. She has hit 57 from behind the arc this season. She passed Kameelah Morgan's (1998) total of 56. Smith needs two more to move into a tie for fifth with Amy Cherubini, who had 59 in 1992.

• Indiana's Jenny DeMuth had five steals against Minnesota, which marks the third time this season she has had five or more steals in a game. Coupled with her three steals in the first round, DeMuth ties the Indiana record for most steals in a single tournament with eight. She ties the mark held by Heather Cassidy during the 2002 tournament.

• Indiana's Nikki Smith (18), Cyndi Valentin (14), Jenny DeMuth (14) and Whitney Thomas (10) each scored double figures against Minnesota. It marks the fifth time this season that Indiana has had four players in double digits. Indiana is 4-1 when it occurs. The last time IU placed four players in double figures was Jan. 12, 2006 against Northwestern when Valentin (19), Angela Hawkins (13) DeMuth (13) and Thomas (10) scored double-digit points.
