Penn State

  • With the first-round loss against the Fighting Illini, Penn State is 20-13 all time in Big Ten Tournament play and 2-3 in first round games.
  • The Lady Lions are 1-2 in games as the No. 8 seed (2006).
  • The No. 8 seed is 7-8 all time against the No. 9 seed.
  • In six previous career meetings against the Illini, junior guard Tyra Grant had averaged 13.5 points per game. Grant led Penn State with 16 points, shooting 3-of-7 from the three-point line.
  • Senior guard Brianne O'Rourke scored 11 points, shooting 4-of-11 from the floor.
  • O'Rourke shot 2-of-7 from three-point land, while adding four assists.

  • Junior forward Jenna Smith reached 1,500-career points tonigh. Smith led all players with 24 points, shooting 10-of-19 from the floor. Smith now has 1,522 career points, which is eighth in school history.
  • Smith has scored in double figures in 38-consecutive games. That is the second-longest streak in the Big Ten and the seventh longest in the nation.
  • Illinois led by two points at halftime and as many as 12 on three different occasions in the second half.
  • Illinois is now 5-0 when giving up less than 50 points.
  • Illinois out-rebounded the Lady Lions 42-41 and is now 4-3 when it out-rebounds its opponents.
  • Junior forward Lacey Simpson scored 19 points with 14 rebounds against the Lady Lions. It is Simpson's 10th double-double of the season and 14th of her career.
  • Simpson's four steals against Penn State gives her the most steals in program history with 253. Simpson passed Allison Curtin (1998-01) with 252 on the all-time career steals list.
  • Smith and Simpson combined for 43 points and 20 rebounds for the Fighting Illini. The two also combined at the free-throw line a perfect 7-of-7.
  • Head coach Jolette Law is 4-1 in Big Ten Tournament games and 30-35 overall as head coach at Illinois.
