SUNDAY’S GAME RECAPS

Michigan State 57, Purdue 55   Game Story   Box Score   Big Ten Network Highlights

The Spartans picked up their 20th win of the season and secured the No. 2 seed in the Big Ten Tournament with a two-point win over Purdue.  MSU’s Allyssa DeHaan tallied 16 points and moved to within one block of the Big Ten’s all-time record, owning 383 in her career.  Purdue’s Lakisha Freeman was the game’s high scorer with 20 points.

Indiana 67, Michigan 61   Game Story   Box Score  

Indiana edged the Wolverines at home on Sunday to garner the sixth-seed in this year’s conference tournament, handing Michigan the 11 seed.  Hoosier Jamie Braun posted 19 points, five boards and four assists while Michigan’s Carly Benson recorded her 1,000th-career point on her way to a 12-point showing.

Illinois 61, Minnesota 50   Game Story   Box Score  

Illinois upstaged Minnesota in Williams Arena on Sunday, to secure the No. 9 seed in the Big Ten Tournament while putting Minnesota in the No. 5 slot.  Illinois starters once again proved their durability with four players recording 39 minutes or more.  Jenna Smith piloted the Orange and Blue with 17 points and 14 rebounds as the junior sits two points back of 1,500 for her career.

Iowa 86, Northwestern 79   Game Story   Box Score  

The Hawkeyes displayed their scoring capabilities against Northwestern, with all five of their starters in double figures.  Kristi Smith and Megan Skouby led the way with 19 points each, combing to shoot 15-of-16 from the foul line.  Iowa garners the No. 4 seed in this year’s tournament while Northwestern receives the 10th spot.  

Ohio State 74, Penn State 63  Game Story   Box Score   Big Ten Network Highlights

Ohio State won the Big Ten Championship outright and earned its fifth straight No. 1 seed with a home win over Penn State on Sunday.  The OSU tandem of Jantel Lavender and Star Allen combined to put up 53 points and 21 rebounds, shooting 22-of-39 from the floor.  The Lady Lions garner the No. 8 seed at the conference tournament.

Minnesota looks to send its seniors out in style on Sunday, hosting Illinois in a 1 p.m. matchup. In the teams’ previous meeting, the Gophers came out on top of a narrow 52-48 decision in early January. The game should provide some exciting matchups on the court, as Minnesota junior Ashley Ellis-Milan goes head-to-head with Illinois junior Jenna Simpson down low, and Gopher Emily Fox and Illini Lacey Simpson provide quickness and great defense on the ball.

After struggling in recent games, Indiana looks to close out the regular season with a win at home and send its seniors out of Assembly Hall with a victory. The Wolverines have an upset on their minds and are looking to avenge a 10-point to the Hoosiers in late January. Michigan senior Carly Benson needs just four points to reach 1,000 for her career. On the other sideline, Indiana’s Whitney Thomas already reached the 1,000 milestone in points and rebounds this season.

One of the hottest teams in the Big Ten, Iowa enters Evanston on a five game winning streak, having won seven of its last eight games. The Wildcats are coming off a major victory of their own, downing Minnesota, 62-53, in their last home game. The Hawkeyes earned a 74-46 victory in the teams’ last two meetings, but intriguing matchups down low should make this an exciting game to watch. Northwestern center Amy Jaeschke will face off against Iowa center Megan Skouby, who holds a one-inch height advantage over the 6-5 Wildcat. Jaeschke tops the Big Ten in blocks, while Skouby is sixth.

PURDUE (20-8, 13-4 Big Ten) at MICHIGAN STATE (19-9, 12-5 Big Ten) (Noon ET, Big Ten Network)

Purdue is looking to lock up the No. 2 seed in the Big Ten Tournament, while Michigan State is searching for its 20th win of the season in a game that will be televised live by the Big Ten Network. Both teams feature all-around threats with players like Purdue’s Lindsay Wisdom-Hylton, who ranks among the Big Ten’s best in points, rebounds, assists, steals and blocks. Also down low, Spartan junior Allyssa DeHaan is just three swats away from tying the Big Ten’s all-time blocked shots record.

Ohio State would lock up the outright Big Ten title with a win, but the Lady Lions are thinking upset and need a victory to be assured of the No. 7 seed in the Big Ten Tournament. The game also features a battle for the Big Ten scoring crown, as PSU’s Tyra Grant puts her 20.3 points-per-game average on the line against Ohio State’s Jantel Lavender, who averages 19.5 ppg during Big Ten contests.


Useless Stat to Impress Your Friends With This Weekend: Iowa's Ausdemore (1,284), Skouby (1,397) and Smith (1,402) ranks as the highest scoring trio in Big Ten women's basketball history from the same graduating class with 4,083 points.

Minnesota 66, Michigan State 51   Game Story   Box Score  

Minnesota secured a Big Ten Tournament first-round bye with a victory over Michigan State last night at the Breslin Center.  Senior Emily Fox posted 20 points while shooting 8-of-16 from the floor.  The Spartans’ Aisha Jefferson led the way for MSU with 15 points and six boards.  Minnesota improved to 19-9 overall and 11-6 in Big Ten while Michigan State fell to 19-9 and 12-5. 

Ohio State 75, Wisconsin 53   Game Story   Box Score  

Ohio State clinched a share of its fifth-consecutive Big Ten Championship last night with a win at home over Wisconsin.  The Buckeyes became just the second team in Big Ten history to win the conference title five straight years (Ohio State 1983-87).  OSU’s Jantel Lavender recorded 21 points and 13 boards for her 19th double-double of the season.  The Buckeyes could claim the title outright on Sunday with a win over Penn State.

Penn State 65, Northwestern 50   Game Story   Box Score  

Penn State utilized a 46-point second half scoring spree to fuel a comeback win over Northwestern last night at the Bryce Jordan Center.  The Lady Lions executed stellar defense, forcing 26 Wildcat turnovers which produced 24 points for PSU.  PSU’s Tyra Grant remains the Big Ten’s leading scorer in conference games, putting up 23.

The Boilermakers moved into sole possession of second place in the Big Ten standings with a win over Michigan.  Purdue held the lead since the 18:25 mark in the first half and never relented, relying on a plus-16 rebounding advantage.  Senior Danielle Campbell posted a season-high 18 points while classmate Lindsay Wisdom-Hylton notched her11th double-double of the season with a career-high 15 boards and 13 points.

Iowa sent its five seniors off in style last night at Carver-Hawkeye Arena, picking up its 19th win of the season.  The Hawkeyes played nearly flawless basketball, committing only three turnovers while forcing 10 for Illinois.  Fighting Illini Jenna Smith was the game’s high-scorer with 20 points.  Iowa currently rides a five-game winning streak and will look to pick up its sixth straight on Sunday at Northwestern.

Two of the Big Ten’s top teams will meet tonight as Michigan State looks to enact revenge from its defeat at Minnesota earlier this season.  Both squads are coming off difficult losses from Sunday with MSU losing at Wisconsin and the Gophers dropping a decision to Northwestern.  The Spartans sit one game back of conference-leading Ohio State with only two games left to play.

Ohio State looks for at least a share of its fifth-consecutive Big Ten Championship with a home win over the Badgers tonight.  However, do not count out Wisconsin as the Badgers recently upstaged second-place Michigan State on Sunday.  The last time these two teams meet, Ohio State left Madison with a 55-42 victory.

Northwestern travels to the Bryce Jordan Center to face Penn State for the first time this season.  The Wildcats are riding high after a big win over Minnesota on Monday where NU shot an impressive 50 percent from behind the arc and almost 90 percent form the charity stripe.  The Lady Lions have history on their side, owning a 25-7 all-time series lead and 14-1 mark when playing at home.

Purdue looks for a win over a tough Michigan squad tonight in its final home game of the season.  The Boilermakers remain one game back of Big Ten leading Ohio State and tied with Michigan State with just two games left to play.  Michigan enters Mackey Arena donning a balanced scoring attack with six players averaging between 9.9 and 6.6 ppg.

Iowa is mathematically still in the hunt for the Big Ten title and a win tonight over the Fighting Ilini would get the Hawkeyes one step closer to a repeat championship.  The Hawkeyes are 22-5 when playing Illinois in Iowa City and lead the all-time series, 43-16.  Iowa will have the difficult task of maintaining one of the best duos in college basketball in juniors Jenna Smith and Lacey Simpson.  The tandem averages a combined 29.3 ppg. and 17.6 rpg. and each own seven double-doubles this year.

Lauren Aitch, Michigan State
Following the legacy of her late father, junior Lauren Aitch proudly wears the No. 45 Michigan State jersey. Lauren has had to deal with adversity in her four years wearing Green and White, tearing her ACL prior to her sophomore season, watching the head coach that recruited her leave, and most important, overcoming the unexpected passing of her father, Matthew.  Arguably one of the most valuable bench players in the country, Lauren provides the Spartans with the same grit and determination that her father did four decades prior.

MONDAY'S GAME RECAP

Northwestern 62, Minnesota 53   Game Story   Box Score   Big Ten Network Highlights

In a Big Ten upset, Northwestern earned its third victory of the conference season at home last night, totaling two more than the Wildcats had all of last year.  NU out-shot Minnesota, hitting 45.5 percent from the field and 50 percent from behind the arc compared to the Golden Gophers’ respective percentages of 34.5 and 22.2.  Freshman Brittany Orban led the NU offense, racking up 16 points and going 6-of-8 from the foul line.  Minnesota senior Emily Fox also chipped in 16 points as the Gophers fell to 10-6 in the Big Ten.

Iowa 68, Michigan 64   Game Story   Box Score  

The Hawkeyes picked up their 18th win of the season last night on the road at Crisler Arena.  Iowa found its advantage on the glass, out-rebounding Michigan, 42-30, including a plus-eight offensive rebounding benefit.  Hawkeye senior Wendy Ausdemore was the game’s high scorer with 19 points, connecting on three treys.  

Wisconsin 54, Michigan State 51   Game Story   Box Score  

The Badgers posted a huge win in front of a home crowd of 14,657 fans on Sunday afternoon.  The attendance total ranks as the seventh-highest in program history.  Four Wisconsin players netted double-figure performances, including freshman Jade Davis (11 points) who only saw 14 minutes of action.  The Spartans were piloted by freshman Lykendra Johnson with 12 points.  With the loss, MSU slips to one game back of conference-leading Ohio State. 

Penn State 67, Illinois 56   Game Story   Box Score  

Penn State battled back after being down at halftime to score its first victory in Assembly Hall since Feb. 13, 2005.  The Lady Lions were guided by junior Tyra Grant who totaled 16 points, while teammate Janessa Wolff recorded 15 points, hitting 9-of-10 from the charity stripe.  Illinois’ Jenna Smith did all she could for the Illini, notching a game-high 22 points and 13 boards.

Useless Stat to Impress Your Friends With This Weekend:  Indiana shot 78.6 percent from the behind the arc in Thursday night's game against Northwestern, connecting on 11-of-14 attempts.  This performance stands as the best single-game three-point field goal percentage in all of women's D-I college basketball this season.

Michigan State 52, Michigan 27   Game Story   Box Score   Big Ten Network Highlights

The Spartans hosted a defensive clinic last night in East Lansing, holding Michigan to a mere 27 points, the lowest score ever by an opponent in the Breslin Center.  Freshman guard Porschè Poole led the MSU offense with 14 points in just 24 minutes of action.  With the win, Michigan State improves to 12-3 in Big Ten play, sharing the conference lead with Ohio State.

Purdue remains one half-game back of Big Ten front-runners MSU and OSU as the Boilermakers advanced their conference record to 12-4 last night in University Park.  Purdue senior Lindsay Wisdom-Hylton became the Boilermakers’ all-time career leader in rebounds, grabbing 12 boards while adding 12 points.  Penn State’s Tyra Grant led all scorers with 14 points.

Indiana’s Jori Davis shot lights out in yesterday’s road win over the Wildcats, connecting on 5-of-6 from behind the arc and totaling 25 points.  As a team the Hoosiers sank 11-of-14 treys for a 78.6 three-point field goal percentage.  One bright spot for Northwestern was freshman Maggie Mocchi who posted 19 points, including four threes.  Indiana picked up its 10th Big Ten win of the season and improved to 17-8 on the year.

In a game that saw all 10 starters score double-figures, Iowa walked away with the home victory.  The Hawkeyes benefited from a major free throw advantage, outnumbering Wisconsin’s attempts, 24-9.  Iowa also out-rebounded the Badgers, 35-21, as three Hawkeyes tallied eight or more boards.  Wisconsin’s Tara Steinbauer recorded a game-high 15 rebounds while teammate Teah Gant led the offense with 15 points.

After being down four points at the break, Ohio State used a 47-point second half to rally and escape Williams Arena with its 12th Big Ten win of the season.  The Buckeyes remain tied for the conference lead with MSU with three games left to play for both teams.  OSU freshman Samantha Prahalis almost recorded a points-assists double-double, notching 17 and nine, respectively.  Minnesota’s Emily Fox was the game’s high scorer with 18.

Indiana currently sits 2.5 games back in the conference standings with three games left to play. On the other bench, Northwestern looks to play the spoiler, having won its last home conference game in a three-point decision over Michigan.

Ashley Ellis-Milan, Minnesota

Being a role model for young children is something that comes naturally for Golden Gopher junior Ashley Ellis-Milan. Children are drawn to her caring personality and bright smile. Whether it be volunteering at a youth basketball clinic, face-painting at a community event or even visiting a sick child in a hospital, her genuine leadership abilities absolutely shine. Ashley is pursuing a degree in education and hopes to teach at the elementary level some day. She spent the fall as a student teacher at Pine Hills Elementary School in St. Paul.

Monday’s Game Recap

Indiana 67, Wisconsin 61 (OT)   Game Story   Box Score   Big Ten Network Highlights

Never a dull moment in the Big Ten with another thrilling overtime contest made possible by Indiana’s Kim Roberson who nailed a trey with 1.3 seconds left in regulation, forcing the game into extra minutes.  Ultimately the Hoosiers prevailed behind the sharp play of Jamie Braun and Amber Jackson.  Braun netted 20 points, going 3-of-6 from behind the arc, while Jackson sank 15 points and tallied 14 boards.  Wisconsin was led by sophomore Tara Steinbauer who posted 17 points and nine rebounds.

Ohio State was in complete control of this one as the Buckeyes regain a share of the conference lead, tied with Michigan State.  The Buckeyes had four players record 12 points or more with Jantel Lavender earning her 17th double-double of the season.  Northwestern’s Brittany Orban was the game’s high-scorer with 25 points, shooting 13-of-13 from the charity stripe.

Purdue improves to 11-4 in Big Ten play and moves to within a half game of the conference leaders as the Boilermakers triumphed in convincing fashion.  Purdue’s bench outscored the Illinois reserves 19-0.  The Boilermakers were led by senior Lindsay Wisdom-Hylton who put up 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.  Illinois juniors Lacey Simpson and Jenna Smith netted 16 and 14 points, respectively.

After being down 20 points early on in the second half, Iowa mounted the largest come-from-behind win in school history, limiting the Lady Lions to 16 points in the second half while putting up 41 of their own.  Senior Kristi Smith dropped 21 points on 5-of-10 shooting from beyond the arc to lead the Hawkeyes.  Penn State’s Tyra Grant continues her impressive scoring streak, posting 26 last night while averaging over 24 ppg in her last seven outings

Apparently the bank was open on Sunday for Minnesota’s Brittany McCoy as she clanked a three-point shot off the glass and through the hoop with 1.9 seconds left, giving the Gophers the one-point victory.  Minnesota received a big boost from reserve Kay Sylva who put up 12 points in just 13 minutes of play.  The Wolverines gained much of their strength from freshman Carmen Reynolds, recording 14 points and leading the team’s offense for the second straight contest.  Minnesota improves to 10-4 in conference action and sits one game out of first place.

Michigan State avenged its early season loss to the Hoosiers with a thrilling overtime victory to move into sole possession of first place in the Big Ten.  The last four minutes of regulation, which took 25 minutes in real time, were a back-and-forth affair until MSU junior Allyssa DeHaan scored the game tying bucket, sending it into OT.  During extra play, Michigan State used a 10-0 run to seal the deal, giving the program its 11th straight overtime win.  DeHaan was instrumental in the win, racking up 20 points, 10 boards and swatting six shots.

In front of over 5,000 fans at the Kohl Center, Wisconsin snapped its five-game losing streak in a tight matchup with Penn State.  Badger sophomore Tara Steinbauer recorded her first career double-double, totaling 16 points and 10 rebounds.  Penn State’s Tyra Grant was the game’s high-scorer with 24 points and was the only Lady Lion to score in double figures.  Wisconsin improves to 15-10 overall on the season.

Red-hot Illinois picked up its fourth win in the past five games last night in Assembly Hall.  The Fighting Illini duo of Jenna Smith and Lacey Simpson led the charge as Smith posted 21 points and Simpson notched her fourth straight double-double.  Northwestern’s Amy Jaeschke grabbed a game-high 16 boards to a go along with her 13 points and six blocks. 

Iowa 85, Ohio State 75   Game Story   Box Score  

Iowa upended No. 13 Ohio State for the first time in 11 outings.  The Buckeyes drop to second place in the Big Ten, one half-game back of Michigan State.  The Hawkeyes attempted 23 more free throws than OSU and also out-performed the Buckeyes by shooting 81.3 percent from the charity stripe compared to 33.3 percent for Ohio State.  Iowa had four starters in double figures with sophomore Kachine Alexander netting 16 points and pulling down 14 rebounds.  Buckeye Jantel Lavender scored a season-high 32 points on 15-of-21 shooting.

Purdue triumphed in Williams Arena last night to move within one game of first place in the conference standings.  The Boilermakers became the first Big Ten team to defeat Minnesota on its home court this season.  Purdue was led by Lakisha Freeman and FahKara Malone with 12 points each while teammate Lindsay Wisdom-Hylton totaled 11 points and grabbed 11 boards.  Minnesota had a pair of double-figure scores in Ashley Ellis-Milan and Brittany McCoy with 10 each.

The Illini have been hot as of late, capturing three wins in their last four games, including the nail-biter at Northwestern. The Wildcats have been nearly as impressive in the last two weeks, including a three-point victory over Michigan their last time out. Look for tonight’s game to be a close one, as the two teams have combined to play in 15 five-point games this season.

Danielle Campbell, Purdue
Purdue senior Danielle Campbell gained valuable international experience last summer, but it had nothing to do with basketball. The public relations major was an intern with Mary Lally Associates, a boutique public relations firm in London that specializes in the fashion industry. The 6-4 center loved her time in the U.K. so much that she now calls London her favorite place to vacation. The Chicago native has a close relationship with her immediate family members but has family in England and Jamaica.

Penn State pulled out its first true road win of the season last night in Ann Arbor, improving to 4-8 in the conference.  The Lady Lions dialed up the long ball in Crisler Arena, shooting over 54 percent form behind the arc.  Tyra Grant led PSU with 15 points while teammates Zhaque Gray and Julia Trogele each chipped in 11.  Michigan’s high-scorer was freshman Carmen Reynolds with 20 points in just 28 minutes of play, connecting on four treys.

Illinois upended Indiana for the second time this season to pick up the team’s third win in four contests.  Jenna Smith anchored the Orange and Blue with 21 points, shooting 13-of-16 from the foul line.  Teammate Lacey Simpson posted a double-double, recording 16 points and 14 boards.  Four Hoosier starters notched double-digit scoring outputs in Whitney Thomas (12), Jori Davis (12), Jamie Braun (11) and Kim Roberson (11).

The Spartans took down first-place Ohio State yesterday to move to one half-game out of the top conference spot.  Buckeye Jantel Lavender was the game’s high scorer with 19, however OSU’s effort fell short.  Michigan State freshman Lykendra Johnson put up a double-double, knocking down 14 points and grabbing 11 rebounds while teammate Allyssa DeHaan added 16 points in the victory.

The Gophers remain in the Big Ten title hunt as they defeated Iowa, splitting the regular-season series.  Minnesota was led by junior Ashley Ellis-Milan who produced 21 points and seven boards.  Iowa’s Megan Skouby matched Ellis-Milan’s 21 total and added 11 rebounds.  The Hawkeye bench only saw 23 minutes of total action and was outscored by the Gopher reserves, 22-0.

The Boilermakers shot a lights-out 41 percent from behind the arc in conference win over Wisconsin last night.  Junior Jodi Howell was the key cog in that stat, going 5-of-5 from the outside to lead the team with 15 points. Wisconsin’s Alyssa Karel was the game’s high-scorer with 16 points.  Purdue improved to 16-8 overall and 9-4 in Big Ten play while the Badgers fell to 14-10 and 4-9.

In front of a crowd of over 4,000 fans, Ohio State triumphed over Purdue to stay atop the Big Ten standings.  OSU’s Jantel Lavender tallied her 1,000th-career point last night, needing just 53 career games to reach the milestone, scoring 19 points and grabbing 13 rebounds.  Purdue’s Lindsay Wisdom-Hylton was the game’s high-scorer with 20.  Back on the court for the Boilermakers was starting point guard Fahkara Malone, who missed the previous nine games with injury.

Behind the superb performance of senior Emily Fox, Minnesota was able to hang on for its second consecutive victory at the Bryce Jordan Center.  Fox lit up the scoreboard for 22 points, shooting 10-of-14 from the field.  PSU’s Tyra Grant continued her impressive scoring streak with 21 last night.  Over the past four games, Grant is averaging 26 points per game.  The Gophers advance to 8-3 in Big Ten play while Penn State drops to 3-8.

The Wildcats earned their second conference victory of the year in a nail-biter at Welsh-Ryan Arena.  Northwestern led the Wolverines 20-5 early on in the first half but Michigan came battling back, bringing the score to within one with under three minutes left to play.  The Wildcats were able to hang on for the win with much credit given to NU junior guard Kristen Cartwright who tallied 16 points, six boards and three steals.

In a game that saw five players score 15 points or more, Iowa held off a 45-point second-half offensive attack by the Hoosiers to claim victory.  Hawkeye Wendy Ausdemore led the team with 20 points, shooting 11-of-12 from the charity stripe, while teammate Kristi Smith added 17 of her own.  IU’s Jamie Braun was the game’s high-scorer with 21, hitting 4-of-9 form beyond the arc.  Hoosier Kim Roberson did her part, totaling 16 points, seven rebounds and four steals.

Illinois fell into a deep first-half deficit, being outscored 36-18 before the break.  With the win, Michigan State now moves into sole possession of second place in the Big Ten with a 9-3 record.  MSU received a major advantage from its bench scoring, out-numbering Illinois, 27-2.  Illini Jenna Smith put up a game-high 19 points while teammate Lacey Simpson recorded the game’s only double-double with 12 points and 12 boards.

Get to Know Her
Shavelle Little, Ohio State
A junior criminology major, Shavelle Little is a hoops thief on the court, but helps keep the peace on the Ohio State campus when she’s off it. The 2008 Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year works for campus security for the Ohio State Department of Public Safety when she isn't picking the pockets of opposing point guards. She aspires to possibly attend law school after she finishes her undergraduate coursework and ultimately seeks to become a federal investigator.

Minnesota put an end to the Spartans’ six-game winning streak last night with a stellar defensive performance.  The Gophers held MSU to just nine percent from the arc, 28 percent from the field and forced 25 Michigan State turnovers.  Junior center Ashley Ellis-Milan led the Minnesota charge, knocking down 17 points while shooting 90 percent from the charity stripe.  Spartan freshman Lykendra Johnson just missed a double-double, posting 12 points and nine boards.

Michigan 70, Wisconsin 42    Game Story   Box Score  

The Wolverines started the game with a 9-0 run and never relented.  Led by five players scoring in double figures, Michigan shot a lights-out 57 percent from the floor while Wisconsin struggled at 29 percent.  From the outside, Michigan went 7-for-15 with senior guard Jessica Minnifield accounting for three treys while the Badgers found the arc unkind, going 4-for-23.

From the game’s first three-point shot by Jodi Howell to the final buzzer, Purdue was in the driver’s seat.  Howell was the game’s high scorer with 15, while teammates Lindsay Wisdom-Hylton and Lakisha Freeman chipped in 13 and 10, respectively.  Twenty-two turnovers seemed to be the achilles heel for Northwestern, while the Boilermakers only committed 13.

In the first ever triple-overtime game in Big Ten history, Iowa outlasted Penn State in a contest that saw six players record 50 minutes or higher.  Kachine Alexander became the first Hawkeye to post two triple-doubles in one season with 26 points, 21 rebounds and 11 assists in Sunday’s game.  Lady Lion Tyra Grant chalked up her second 30-point game of the year, tying a career-high 33 points in yesterday’s matchup.

The Spartans stay on a winning roll as they down Iowa in East Lansing Thursday night, making it six straight.  With an 8-2 conference record, MSU shares second place in the Big Ten with Indiana.  Iowa received little help form its bench as it was outscored by Michigan State’s reserves, 27-3.  Hawkeye Wendy Ausdemore lit up the scoreboard for a game-high 18 points, going 3-for-6 from beyond the arc.

In a rivalry that needs no description, Ohio State battled its way through a tough Michigan squad to remain on top of the Big Ten.  The Buckeyes used a 12-2 run at the 12 minute mark in the second half to claim the lead and the win.  OSU sophomore Jantel Lavender produced a game-high 17 points, shooting 7-of-9 from the charity stripe.

Starting the contest down 10-0, Purdue traded runs with Wisconsin the entire night, finishing the game with 7-2 stretch which sealed the win.  The Badgers struggled from behind the arc, connecting on 26.7 percent of their shots while Purdue knocked down half its attempts.  The Boilermakers reside in fourth place in the Big Ten standings with a 7-3 mark and are still very much in the conference title hunt.

Illinois heads to Northwestern for an in-state battle that will be featured live on the Big Ten Network looking to build on their momentum from Sunday’s win over Indiana. The Illini have won their last 17 matchups in Evanston, but are winless on the road during Big Ten play this season. Two of the conference’s best post players will go head-to-head in the game as Northwestern’s Amy Jaeschke and Illinois’ Jenna Smith both rank in the Big Ten’s top 10 in points and rebounds.

The potent Iowa offense boasts three players who have scored over 1,000 career points, while the stingy Spartan defense allows less than 56 points per game. The game also features the two tallest players in the Big Ten in Iowa’s Megan Skouby (6-6) and Michigan State’s Allyssa DeHaan (6-9).

The Big Ten once again ranks among the nation's best in attendance with four programs among the NCAA's top 15. The Big Ten has the highest percentage (36) of its teams in the top 15 and is tied with the Big 12 for the most programs in this range. Full Report.

Among the Big Ten's success stories, Indiana has seen its attendance increase by 440 fans per game, while its season-ticket sales have risen 18 percent. Full Story.

Brittany Orban, Northwestern
Freshman Brittany Orban did not have a normal childhood growing up North Canton, Ohio. She is a twin and the middle of four children, one of which has cerebral palsy. Holidays are spent together at Hattie Larlham, where her disabled brother, Matthew, has lived for 14 years. Orban's parents and sometimes her twin, Connor, make the trip from Ohio to Evanston for every home game and are usually found cheering her on at away contests as well. The forward is majoring in civil engineering and hopes to one day design facilities for the disabled.

In a game that produced eight double-digit scorers, four from each team, the Hawkeyes sank their shots in the game's closing minutes to seal the victory in Iowa City.  Iowa was led by the senior duo of Wendy Ausdemore and Kristi Smith who each put up 21 points.  In her first collegiate start, freshman guard Kamille Wahlin posted a double-double, dishing out 10 assists and chipping in 14 points.  The Hawkeyes are currently riding a four-game winning streak as they improve to 12-7 overall and 5-3 in Big Ten play.

In front of a season-high crowd of 10,489, the seventh-largest in school history, Michigan State downed Wisconsin, to improve its Big Ten mark to 7-2.  The Spartans owned a major advantage at the foul line, shooting 13-of-20 e compared to the Badgers' 4-of-5.  MSU's Lykendra Johnson poured in a career-high 14 points to lead her squad while Wisconsin's Alyssa Karel also registered a team-high 14.

Both squads brought their defensive game to this incredible battle in Minneapolis.  Northwestern held Minnesota to 10 percent from the arc and 30.8 percent shooting overall.  Likewise, the Gophers held the Wildcats to 7.7 percent from the outside and a 27.7 field goal percentage, ultimately notching the thee-point win.

Behind the incredible talent of junior center Jenna Smith, Illinois claimed its first Big Ten win of the season over first-place Indiana.  Smith put up 24 points, pulled down 15 boards and swatted three shots, playing in all 40 minutes.  The Hoosiers were out-shot by nearly 18 percent from the field and fell to 14-4 overall and 7-2 in conference.
