Jessica Davenport, Ohio State
JR, 6-5, C, Columbus, Ohio/Independence
Davenport earns her second-straight Big Ten Player of the Week award after helping the Buckeyes to a pair of conference wins last week. On Sunday, Davenport notched 31 points, including the game-winning shot, to lift No. 7/7 Ohio State past No. 12/14 Michigan State, 67-65, which snapped the Spartans' 23-game home-winning streak. Davenport, who also posted 10 rebounds, three blocked shots and two assists, took a 40-foot pass from Marscilla Packer and scored just before the buzzer for her 14th basket in 19 shots (.737). In a 60-50 win against Indiana on Thursday, Davenport fought off double- and triple-team coverage to record 10 points on 5-of-8 shooting, and tallied nine rebounds, three blocks and two assists as well.
On the week, Davenport averaged 20.5 points on 19-of-27 (.704) from the field. She also notched 9.5 rebounds, 3.0 blocks and 2.0 assists per game. Including 17 games from the 2004-05 season, Davenport has now scored in double-figures 36 straight games. This is the seventh overall weekly selection for Davenport, which ties her with Purdue's MaChelle Joseph (1989-92) for fourth all-time in Big Ten history.
