Indiana led the third game of the night from start to finish, and beat Michigan by a final score of 68-52 to advance to Friday's quarterfinal game against No. 3 seed Minnesota
The game was dominated by Indiana from tip-off, with the Hoosiers scoring the first two points of the game, and then going on a 7-0 run early to go up 9-2. Led by Cyndi Valentin's 8 points, Indiana built a 20-7 lead through the first 10 minutes. The Hoosiers continued to dominate the half and built a 40-20 lead going into the break. Ta'Shia Walker led the Wolverines in scoring with six points, Janelle Cooper added five.
Not much changed at the start of the second half. Indiana continued to dominate the start of the second half, Jenny DeMuth leading the way with six second half points through the first three and a half minutes.
Michigan brought the game within 16 points with an 11-1 run midway through the second half. Krista Clement hit a pair of threes during the run and led her team with six points in the half. Stephanie Skrba rejuvenated her teammates with a big offensive rebound and an assist. She then added a long jumper with just under seven minutes remaining to bring Michigan within 14. After an Indiana jumper, Carly Benson hit a three-pointer to make the game 61-48, the closest the Wolverines had been in the half.
The Wolverines pulled within 11 with about three minutes left in the game, but that would be as close as Michigan would get. Cyndi Valentin hit a layup with 1:45 to go to put the Hoosiers back up by 15 at 65-50.
With a 68-52 victory, Indiana advances to Friday's quarterfinal to face No. 3-seed Minnesota. Today's attendance of 6,015 was a new record for session one of the Big Ten Women's Basketball Tournament, breaking the previous record of 5,630 which was set in 2002.
