With no games on Saturday's agenda, the final four teams playing in the semifinal games of the Big Ten Tournament presented by Xbox Live met with fans and media and signed autographs at the first annual Talk of the Town event. The celebration of Big Ten women's basketball was held at the Artsgarden in Indianapolis, the city that has played host to 11 of the 12 Big Ten Women's Basketball Tournaments.
Close to 300 fans were present at the event, which featured head coaches and players from each of the four teams, and former Big Ten Tournament stars Shereka Wright and Kristin Haynie. Wright, now of the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury, starred for Purdue and was the Big Ten Tournament's Most Outstanding Player in 2003 and 2004. Haynie, a former Michigan State standout and 2005 Tournament Most Valuable Player, now plays for the Sacramento Monarchs.
Throughout the event, fans had an opportunity to ask questions of players and coaches as well as take pictures, win prizes and get autographs. Fans of all ages and many Big Ten schools were on hand representing their favorite teams and wearing colors of all 11 universities. Indianapolis radio stations Radio Now 93.1 FM, 97.1 Hank FM and AM 1070 WIBC set up booths and gave away prizes to younger attendees. Also in attendance were Comcast SportsNet Chicago and several Indianapolis television stations.
Tournament action continues on Sunday when Ohio State takes on Michigan State and Indiana battles Purdue.
