2005 Big Ten Women's Basketball Tournament Semifinal Notes

• The top four seeds have advanced to the semifinals of the Big Ten Tournament for the second time in the event's 11-year history. The first time the top four seeds advanced was in 2000, when No. 1 Penn State, No. 2 Michigan, No. 3 Purdue and No. 4 Illinois moved on. The Boilermakers went on to beat Penn State, 71-63, to win the Tournament title.

• All-time Big Ten Tournament Records: Ohio State 15-10 (.600); Michigan State 6-10 (.375); Penn State 18-8 (.692); Minnesota 3-10 (.230).

• All-time semifinal appearances in the Big Ten Tournament: Ohio State 5 (2-3 record); Michigan State 3 (0-3 record); Penn State 8 (6-2 record); Minnesota 0.

• Penn State is the only team of the four remaining squads who have won a Big Ten Tournament in the modern era (since 1995). The Lady Lions claimed the Tournament title in 1995 and 1996.

• The No.1-seed and No. 4-seed have faced off in the semifinals four times in the history of the Big Ten Tournament. The No. 4-seed owns a 3-1 record in those games.

• The No. 2-seed and No. 3-seed also have met four times in the semifinals. In these games, the No. 3-seed is 3-1.

• Penn State and Michigan State met for the first time in the semifinals in the 2004 Big Ten Tournament. The Lady Lions defeated the Spartans 58-54 to advance.

• The Lady Lions hold a 2-0 advantage over Michigan State in the Big Ten Tournament. The two squads have previously met in the 1999 quarterfinals (79-74) and in the 2004 semifinals (58-54).

• Ohio State and Minnesota have never met in the semifinals. It will be the first semifinal appearance for the Golden Gophers.

• The Buckeyes are 2-0 against Minnesota in the Big Ten Tournament. The two teams met during the first round in 1996 (78-64) and last year in the quarterfinals (58-50).
