2005 Big Ten Women's Basketball Tournament Semifinal Quotes
MICHIGAN STATE
Joanne P. McCallie, Head Coach
Opening Statement:
"We had a great, tough game last night and we're recovering a little bit. We look forward to the opportunity of playing another excellent team. We'll practice today and we're looking forward to a good night's sleep tonight."
On having a day off:
"I think it benefits all four teams. It's an equal benefit. We had a physical game, and maybe we could have even played today. We appreciate the time to refocus ourselves, get a little rest and concentrate on the game plan."
On adjustments from the first meeting:
"I think it's important to know that you have to play hard. In January when we played them, to their credit they played well. When you get into March, a lot is made about match ups. I think it's about us, who we are and who we play. We were out-rebounded, we were out-hustled, and we didn't play smart and focused. There are a lot of things we didn't do, and that's what we are going to focus on because in March, there are a lot of great teams to play."
Kelli Roehrig, Center
On going head-to-head with Jessica Davenport and Janel McCarville:
"Personally, I have Penn State to worry about but both are very physical players. McCarville has a lot of quickness around the basket and a lot more range. Both are very physical post players and like to push us out of our paint."
On playing close games:
"Like all of our games, it's been about defense and rebounding. We need to out-rebound them and play better defense."
Kristin Haynie, Guard
On playing Penn State a second time:
"It's a great opportunity to play them again. We didn't play well at their place last time. It's time to make some changes, and see what we can do tomorrow."
On playing as a senior and getting the team focused:
"We have a lot of history with Penn State, and a lot of experience on the court with Kelli (Roehrig), Liz (Shimek), Lindsay (Bowen), and me. We've played a lot of great teams since our freshman year, and we know what it takes to beat those teams."
