Big Ten Announces Conference Women's Basketball Schedule

PARK RIDGE, Ill. - The Big Ten announced its 2010-11 conference women's basketball schedule Friday, revealing extensive exposure for its 11 institutions. In total, 37 regular season conference games will be broadcast to a national audience, 32 of which will be televised live by the Big Ten Network, four on ESPN2 and one on CBS Sports.

Additionally, the Big Ten Network will televise 14 non-conference games nationally and will stream a select number of non-conference and conference games on www.bigtennetwork.com. The dates, times and distribution for the complete streaming schedule will be announced prior to the start of the season.

In addition to the regular season contests that will be made available to a national audience, all 10 games of the Big Ten Women's Basketball Tournament, held March 3-6 at Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, will be televised nationally for the fourth consecutive season. The first nine games will appear on the Big Ten Network, while the championship game will be broadcast on ESPN2.

Each Big Ten team will be featured at least five times on national television during the conference season, which begins on Thursday, Dec. 30, with 10 of the conference's 11 teams in action. The Big Ten Network will begin its coverage of conference action beginning at 6:30 p.m. ET with Ohio State visiting Michigan in the first game of a doubleheader, followed by Minnesota at Illinois at 8:30 p.m. ET.

ESPN2 will broadcast its first Big Ten matchup on Sunday, Jan. 16, when Penn State hosts Illinois for a 4 p.m. ET meeting. Women's basketball will be part of ESPN2's Monday lineup on Jan. 24, as Ohio State hosts Iowa at 7 p.m. ET. The network's remaining regular season games include Michigan at Michigan State at 2:30 p.m. ET on Sunday, Feb. 13, and Ohio State at Purdue at 5 p.m. ET on Sunday, Feb. 20.

CBS will air Big Ten women's basketball on Saturday, Jan.8, with a rematch of last year's Big Ten Tournament championship game as Ohio State visits Iowa. Tip is scheduled for 4 p.m. ET.

The regular season will conclude with a Big Ten Network tripleheader beginning at Noon ET on Sunday, Feb. 27. Penn State will host Northwestern and will be followed by Indiana welcoming Iowa at 2 p.m. ET and Ohio State finishing with Wisconsin at 4 p.m. ET.

In 2009-10, each Big Ten team finished the season with at least six conference triumphs and 13 wins overall. Never before in conference history had each team finished with 10 or more overall wins or five or more conference victories. Also, a conference-record nine squads advanced to postseason play.
