Hill, Bentley Share Big Ten Preseason Player of the Year Distinction

Park Ridge, Ill. - The Big Ten announced on Thursday that Ohio State's Tayler Hill and Penn State's Alex Bentley shared conference Preseason Player of the Year accolades from the coaches, while Hill earned the nod from a selected media panel. It is the second straight season Bentley was named Preseason Player of the Year. Penn State was selected as the preseason favorite by both the coaches and media.
Hill was named a first-team All-Big Ten performer last year after averaging a conference-best 20.4 points per game and leading the Buckeyes to a 25-win season. She was named to the preseason watch list for the Wade Trophy, which honors the nation's most outstanding player.
Bentley was a first-team All-Conference selection for the second time a year ago, leading the Lady Lions to their sixth Big Ten Championship. Bentley was 11th in the Big Ten in points (14.1 per game) and fourth in assists (4.7) last season, and was selected to the Wade Trophy Watch List.
Reigning Big Ten Coach of the Year Coquese Washington and the Lady Lions return four starters from a team that finished with 26 victories and claimed the conference championship last season. Penn State returns nine letterwinners from a team that finished the season ranked ninth in the coaches poll.
Nebraska, selected to finish second by the coaches and media, returns four starters and 10 letterwinners from last year's team that advanced to the Big Ten Tournament title game. The Huskers finished 24-9 and earned a trip to the NCAA Tournament.
Purdue was voted to finish third by the coaches this season, and returns three starters from last year's squad that won the Big Ten Tournament title. The Boilermakers advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament, its 22nd overall berth in the event.
With four starters and 12 letterwinners returning this season, Ohio State was selected to finish third in the conference by the media. Hill and Amber Stokes were voted to the All-Defensive Team, while Stokes was voted the Defensive Player of the Year in leading the Buckeyes back to the NCAA Tournament.
