Nov. 2, 2017

Seven Big Ten schools are ranked or receiving votes in the Associated Press and USA Today Sports/Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) preseason Top 25 polls released this week.

Defending Big Ten co-champion Ohio State will start this season at No. 5 in the AP poll and No. 8 in the USA Today balloting, while fellow conference co-champion and three-time defending Big Ten Tournament champion Maryland tips off at No. 15 in the AP poll and No. 13 in the USA Today survey. Michigan joins the pair at No. 24 in the AP Top 25 and No. 23 in the USA Today poll — it marks the first time since 2001 the Wolverines will start the season ranked in the AP poll.

Indiana, Michigan State and Purdue each received votes in both the AP and USA Today polls. In addition, Nebraska garnered votes in the coaches’ balloting.

The Big Ten will tip off its 36th women’s basketball season the weekend of Nov. 10-12, with all 14 schools in action, including 10 that will open at home.
