Michigan State's Shimek Named Player of the Week

Liz Shimek, Michigan State Shimek opened up senior campaign posting impressive performances in wins over 2005 NCAA Tournament teams UC Santa Barbara and Western Carolina. The All-America candidate poured in a career-high 26 points on 10-of-13 shooting with seven boards against the Gauchos, only to better that performance against the Catamounts on Sunday. She scored a new career-high of 28 points on 13-of-16 shooting with 10 rebounds in just 26 minutes, marking her 24th career double-double. Shimek also dished out four assists and had three steals against WCU. Through two games, Shimek is shooting an impressive 23-for-29 (.793) from the floor and averaging 27.0 points and 8.5 boards. She is also a perfect 7-for-7 from the line. This is the second career Player of the Week honor as she shared the award with Minnesota's Janel McCarville on Feb. 7, 2005.
