Big Ten Field Hockey Opens 2004 Campaign
Aug. 25, 2004
The 2004 Big Ten field hockey season begins this weekend, as all seven League teams are in action beginning on Saturday, August 28. Defending regular-season co-champion and Big Ten Tournament winner Michigan State will be hosting the Champions' Challenge in East Lansing with a field that includes last year's national runner-up in Duke. Michigan, which shared the Big Ten title last season, will face a rematch of a 2003 NCAA First Round game as the Wolverines open against North Carolina in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge. Michigan knocked off the fourth-seeded Tar Heels on the way to the national semifinals last season. The Big Ten/ACC Challenge will also feature Iowa facing Wake Forest, which has claimed the national title each of the last two years and knocked off the Wolverines in the round of four last season. Indiana, Northwestern, Ohio State and Penn State will also be in action this weekend.
