Big Ten Field Hockey Opens 2011 Campaign This Weekend

All seven Big Ten field hockey teams square off in the first official action of the 2011 season this weekend, with four teams opening play on Friday. Three of the seven teams begin the season on their home field, while four open on the road or at neutral sites. Four conference squads face ranked teams to open the campaign, with one taking on a top-five team to begin play. Friday’s slate begins with Northwestern traveling to take on Kent State at Noon ET and No. 6 Ohio State hosting No. 15 Duke at 2 p.m. ET to begin the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. Indiana hosts Miami (Ohio) at 4 p.m. ET, while No. 12 Old Dominion welcomes No. 8 Penn State at 5 p.m. ET. The ACC/Big Ten Challenge continues Saturday as No. 2 North Carolina travels to Ann Arbor to take on ninth-ranked Michigan at Noon ET and No. 11 Wake Forest takes on Iowa at 1:30 p.m. CT. Thirteenth-ranked Michigan State plays California at 6 p.m. ET.
