Offensive Player of the Week
Lydia Schrott, Indiana
Jr., F, Quarryville, Pa./Lancaster Christian
Schrott earns Offensive Player of the Week accolades after leading Indiana to a 2-0 record to open the non-conference season. Schrott began the weekend, tallying one goal in a 3-1 triumph over New Hampshire. She followed with another stellar performance, breaking the school's single-game record after scoring all three of the Hoosiers' goals in a 3-2 victory over Northeastern. She finished the weekend with a total of four goals to become Indiana's all-time leader in goals scored with 16 and surpassing former standout Erica Nilsson (15). Schrott, who collects her first career Big Ten weekly award, is the second consecutive Hoosier to earn offensive accolades as teammate Frederique Meeuwen claimed the final 2004 weekly honor on Nov. 1, 2004.
Defensive Player of the Week
Megan Akstin, Penn State
Sr., GK, Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Arlington
Akstin was named Defensive Player of the Week after tallying 20 saves in two games and leading the Nittany Lions to a 1-0 shutout victory over William & Mary last weekend. Against the Tribe, she held her opponent scoreless through 70 minutes of regulation and two 15-minute overtime periods. After neither team could score a goal, the game went into a penalty stroke-off where Akstin blocked two shots to finish the game with 11 saves and give Penn State its first victory of the 2005 season. Akstin picks up her second career Big Ten weekly accolade as she was also honored on Sept. 13, 2004.
