Big Ten Conference Announces First Weekly Field Hockey Awards for 2010

Park Ridge, Ill. - Penn State's Kelsey Amy and Michigan State's Molly Cassidy have earned the first Big Ten field hockey Player of the Week awards of the 2010 season, the conference office announced on Monday. Amy takes home the first Offensive Player of the Week, while Cassidy was handed Defensive and Freshman of the Week awards.
Offensive Player of the Week
Kelsey Amy earns her first Offensive Player of the Week award after being responsible for half of Penn State's offensive output in Friday's 4-0 season-opening win over No. 16 Old Dominion. With the two goals coming off penalty corners, Amy tied a career high in goals, now having 10 goals in her last 12 games dating back to last season.

Defensive Player and Freshman of the Week
Molly Cassidy earns the first weekly awards after leading Michigan State's 1-0 shutout of No. 10 Duke in the Champions Invitational Tournament on Sunday. Cassidy made six of her 10 saves in the second half, including two point-blank stops to keep the pressing Blue Devils off the board. Cassidy also had three saves in the semi-final game against Central Michigan University.
