Offensive Player of the Week

Lucia Belassi, Michigan

Sr., F, Paysandu, Uruguay/Liceo #1

 

The Paysandu, Uruguay, native led the Wolverines over the weekend, sweeping Louisville and Vermont on the road. Belassi played a hand in all three of Michigan's goals in the 3-2 win over Louisville, scoring two and assisting on the eventual game winner in the second half. Against Vermont, the senior captain added two more assists en route to Michigan's 5-0 shutout of the Catamounts. Belassi earns back-to-back weekly conference laurels for a career total of three.

Defensive Player of the Week

Meghan Beamesderfer, Iowa

So., B/MF, Lititz, Pa./Warwick

The 2006 Big Ten Freshman of the Year continues to dominate the defensive backfield, leading the Hawkeyes to a 6-0 shutout of Sacred Heart on Friday and a 3-1 advantage over Fairfield on Saturday. In Sunday's contest the Lititz, Pa., native moved to the center back in order to play a more aggressive role on defense, holding Fairfield scoreless for the second half of the match. Beamesderfer's defensive prowess helped the Hawkeyes shut out Sacred Heart on Saturday, holding the Pioneers to only seven shots for the match. This is Beamesderfer's first weekly accolade.
