Park Ridge, Ill. -
Northwestern's Chelsea Armstrong and Catherine Franklin and Michigan's Haley Jones have been awarded the Big Ten field hockey weekly honors, the conference office announced on Monday. Armstrong earns the nod for Offensive Player of the Week, while Jones receives Defensive Player of the Week honors and Franklin earns Freshman of the Week recognition.
Offensive Player of the Week
Chelsea Armstrong earns her fifth career award after leading Northwestern to a landmark victory in its Big Ten opener as the Wildcats defeated sixth-ranked Ohio State, 3-2, the highest ranked team Northwestern has beaten since 1997. Armstrong scored two goals on only three shots, including the game-winning tally with 11 minutes remaining off a penalty corner that broke a 2-2 tie. Armstrong, the NCAA leader in points and the Big Ten leader in goals, now has six multi-goal games on the year and has moved into eighth all-time at Northwestern with 35 career goals in only 31 matches.
