Birrell collects Offensive Player of the Week accolades after scoring three goals to lead the Hawkeyes to victories over Pacific, Ohio State and Michigan last weekend. With a swollen eye and her head wrapped in gauze covering a deep cut caused by a wayward ball during the first overtime, Birrell notched a goal at the 6:39 mark of the second overtime to give Iowa a 2-1 victory over Pacific. She followed with another outstanding performance, leading the Hawkeyes to a 4-3 upset over No. 9 Michigan. Early in the game, Burrell scored a deflection goal and then tied the game off a penalty corner at the 56:56 mark. She finished the weekend with a total of seven points, including three goals and one assist.
Defensive Player of the Week
Barb Weinberg, Iowa

Weinberg earns her first Defensive Player of the Week honor after recording a shutout versus Ohio State and notching three crucial saves in the second half of a 4-3 double overtime upset against Michigan last weekend. She recorded one key save off a penalty corner in the overtime period to post a total of 13 saves against the Wolverines. She also stopped a penalty stroke against Ohio State to preserve a 2-0 shutout over the Buckeyes. Weinberg currently ranks second in the League with 7.82 saves per game.
