Michigan Clinches Big Ten Championship

ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Michigan field hockey team clinched the outright Big Ten Championship on Friday with a 1-0 win over Northwestern in Ann Arbor, Mich. The Wolverines earned the No. 1 seed in next week’s Big Ten Tournament.

Michigan’s Katie Trombetta's corner shot at 9:17 into the second half put the Wolverines up 1-0 and helped secure the team’s first outright Big Ten Championship title since 2011. The fourth-ranked Wolverines finished the conference season with an 8-0 Big Ten record.

The Big Ten Tournament will feature a new two-weekend format with quarterfinal games taking place on the campus of the higher-seeded teams, from Oct. 27-29. The semifinals and championship game will be hosted by Michigan State in East Lansing, Mich., from Nov. 3-5. The 2017 Field Hockey Tournament bracket will be released on Sunday following the completion of the regular-season.
