PARK RIDGE, Ill. – Michigan clinched the 2011 Big Ten field hockey championship after earning its fifth conference win of the season on Friday in a 4-2 victory over Indiana.  The No. 7 Wolverines have gone undefeated in their last five conference games, and have posted a 13-4 overall record this season, 5-1 in the Big Ten. The title marks Michigan’s second consecutive Big Ten Championship and eighth overall. The win also clinches the No. 1 seed in the Big Ten Tournament, which will be held on Nov. 3-6 in State College, Pa.

Tied 1-1 after the first half, the Wolverines scored three goals in the second to defeat the Hoosiers.  Freshman Emy Guttman scored Michigan’s first goal in the 22nd minute. Sophomore Rachael Mack opened the second half with a goal in the 36th minute, and freshman Aline Fobe scored the third Wolverine goal in the 52nd minute. Senior Jess Allen notched the final tally in the 66th minute.
