Oct. 29, 2005
Bracket in PDF Format Heading into this weekend's action, Penn State had already clinched a share of the conference title and faced second-place Indiana in Bloomington, Ind., where the Hoosiers were vying for a share of their first-ever Big Ten title. However, PSU's Kiersten Wood spoiled Indiana's quest when she scored the game-winning goal in overtime to give the Nittany Lions a thrilling 4-3 victory in front of a record-setting crowd at Mellencamp Pavilion. Penn State, ranked sixth in the latest STX/NFHCA National Coaches poll, earns the first-round bye and will open tournament play on Saturday, Nov. 5. Despite falling in their final regular-season conference contest, Indiana clinched the No. 2 seed, its highest seeding ever in Big Ten Tournament history. The Hoosiers, who are rated ninth nationally, will face seventh-seeded Northwestern in the first game of the tournament on Friday, Nov. 4 at 10 a.m. CST. The second game of the day will feature No. 4 Michigan, the defending Big Ten Tournament champion, taking on fifth-seeded Iowa at 12:30 p.m. The contest will be a rematch of last year's championship game as the Wolverines defeated the Hawkeyes, 3-2, to earn UM's third tournament crown in program history. The final game of the opening day will feature Ohio State, seeded third and ranked eighth in the nation, against sixth-seeded Michigan State at 3 p.m.
