Penn State, Ohio State and Michigan State Win Field Hockey Honors

Park Ridge, Ill. - The Big Ten Conference announced the final field hockey weekly award winners of the 2010 season. Penn State's Kelsey Amy was named Offensive Player of the Week, Ohio State's Jenn Sciulli won Defensive Player of the Week and Michigan State's Molly Cassidy earned Freshman of the Week honors.

Penn State's Kelsey Amy earned her second Offensive Player of the Week honor after posting her second four-goal performance of the season against Northwestern on Friday. During the game, she took seven shots and connected on four of them. Her output tied for the most goals scored in a Big Ten game this season. This award is the sophomore's fourth of her career.

Defensive Player of the Week
Jenn Sciulli - Ohio State

Jenn Sciulli claims her third Defensive Player of the Week honor of the season and of her career in helping the Buckeyes to their third Big Ten Championship as Ohio State defeated Ball State and Iowa last week. Sciulli led the Buckeye backfield to the team's fifth and sixth shutouts of the season. Against Ball State, the Ohio State defense limited the Cardinals to two shots and did not allow a penalty corner. At Iowa, the junior helped limit the Hawkeyes to eight shots in 70 minutes of competition. During the Buckeyes' current nine-game win streak, the backfield has allowed only four goals and has limited opponents to 5.2 shots per game. The Palmyra, Pa., native leads the conference in defensive saves this year with six.

Michigan State's Molly Cassidy earns her third Freshman of the Week award and fifth weekly award of her career after recording a career-high 12 saves against Northwestern last weekend. Cassidy faced a total of 14 shots in the Spartans' last regular-season game. The Encinitas, Calif., native tallied eight saves in the first period. The freshman has a goals-against-average of 1.66, a save percentage of .754 and a total of five career shutouts.
