Michigan and Penn State Eliminated in Second Round Play
In Sunday's second round of the NCAA Championship, the Michigan Wolverines dropped a 5-1 decision to No. 1 North Carolina, while Penn State lost 3-2 to No. 4 Connecticut. Aline Fobe scored the lone goal for the Wolverines. Jenna Chrismer and Kelsey Amy notched tallies for the Nittany Lions.
Michigan finishes the season 15-7 overall, while Penn State wraps up its campaign at 17-6 overall. North Carolina will face Connecticut in the seminfinals on Nov. 18.
Michigan and Penn State advance to second round of NCAA Championship
Michigan edged New Hampshire 5-4 in their opening round matchup Saturday afternoon. Down 3-0 in the first half, the Wolverines stormed back to advance to the round of eight. Rachael Mack led the Wolverines with three goals in the contest. Michigan will face top-seeded North Carolina at 2 p.m. ET on Sunday.
Penn State defeated Northeastern 1-0 in their first round matchup this afternoon. Taylor Herold scored the lone goal for the Nittany Lions in the contest. Penn States will face fourth-seeded Connecticut at 2 p.m. ET on Sunday.
Ohio State and Iowa Eliminated in NCAA Championship opener
In Saturday's opening round of the NCAA Championship, the Ohio State Buckeyes dropped a 5-0 contest to second-seeded Old Dominion in the Norfolk Regional.
Ohio State finishes the season 12-9 overall. Old Dominion moves on to face the winner of the day's next match between Stanford-Duke at 2 p.m. ET.
Iowa lost a 4-2 decision to Maryland in their opening-round matchup. The Hawkeyes finish the season 15-5 overall, while Maryland moves on to face Syracuse in second round.
NCAA Championship First Round is Underway

Four Big Ten Teams to Open Play Saturday at the NCAA Championship
Iowa, Michigan, Ohio State and Penn State take to the field on Saturday in the first round of the NCAA Field Hockey Championship.
Ohio State makes its third straight tournament appearance and seventh overall after finishing the regular season with a 12-8 record. The Buckeyes take on No. 2 seed Old Dominion in Norfolk, Va., at 11:30 a.m. ET in their first round matchup.
After winning its fifth Big Ten Tournament title, Penn State will visit Storrs, Conn. to take on Northeastern at 2:00 p.m. ET in opening-round play. The Nittany Lions put together a 16-5 record during the regular season en route to their second consecutive NCAA Championship appearance and their 26th overall.
Iowa makes its 21st appearance in the national tournament after putting together a 15-4 record during the regular season. The Hawkeyes will travel to College Park, Md., to take on Maryland at 2 p.m. ET in their first-round match.
Big Ten champion Michigan makes its second consecutive and 10th overall appearance in the NCAA Championship after recording a 14-6 record in the regular season. The Wolverines visit Chapel Hill, N.C., to take on New Hampshire at 2 p.m. ET in their first match.
