Big Ten women's golf teams resume play this weekend with Illinois and Northwestern opening their spring schedules. The Fighting Illini travel to Boca Raton, Fla., to compete against Illinois State in the Illinois Challenge on Saturday, while the Wildcats take on Kent State in Jupiter, Fla., on Sunday. The other 10 conference teams take to the course for the first time in February.
Four Big Ten teams open the spring season at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic on Feb. 12-14 in Rio Grande, P.R., as Michigan, Nebraska, Penn State and Purdue each begin the 2012 slate at the event. Minnesota begins play on Feb. 12-14, as the Gophers head to Sorrento, Fla., for the UCF Challenge.
Michigan State and Ohio State open their spring campaigns at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge in Palos Verdes, Calif., on Feb. 13-15, while Indiana and Wisconsin head to Parrish, Fla., on Feb. 17-18 for the IU Spring Challenge. Iowa begins 2012 at the Claud Jacobs Challenge in Victoria, Texas, on Feb. 19-20.
Five Big Ten teams enter the spring season ranked in the Golfweek/Sagarin top 50, with Ohio State leading the way at No. 22. Michigan State follows at No. 26, while Purdue checks in at No. 32. Northwestern ranks 37th following the fall season, with Michigan holding No. 48 nationally.
